A Simple Guide To The Korean 10-Step Beauty Routine

Thursday, May 16, 2019

K-pop is not the only Korean-derived thing people have been talking about for the last 1/2 years. Korean skincare is all the rage right now, especially their infamous 10-step skincare routine. It sounds kinda scary, right? I mean who has the time (and the patience) to apply ten different products to your skin before leaving the house or going to sleep? But trust me, it's much easier than it sounds. Here's a breakdown of the Korean 10-step beauty routine.

1- Oil-based Cleanser

The first step on the Korean 10-step beauty routine is using an oil cleanser. Oil cleansers really break down the makeup on your face, making it much easier to remove. It should be applied on a dry face and rinsed with lukewarm water

2-Water-based/Foam Cleanser
Yes, we're using another cleanser. Double-cleansing is a really popular thing in Korea. The water cleanser will remove any impurities the oil cleanser might have left behind as well as the residue the actual oil cleanser might have left

3-Exfoliant

This is a skippable step, as it is only to be done 1/2x a week. I know there are very mild exfoliators for daily use but I still think exfoliating your skin on a daily basis is too much. As I mentioned above, one or two times a week should do the trick.

4-Toner

Apply your toner with a cotton pad in gentle swiping motions. The toner will get rid of any residue that might be left (even after double-cleansing), it will balance your skin's PH levels and it will be also the first step to introducing moisture back into your face.

5- Essence

An essence is basically a lotion in water-like form, normally targeting specific skin problems like redness. A spritz of essence will refresh your face and make it a bit more moisturized.

6- Serum

Just like the essence, a serum is made to target specific skin problems, but this time in a much more concentrated form. It should be applied directly to the skin and patted until absorbed.

7- Facial Oil/ Spot Treatment/ Sheet Mask

This step is the most flexible one of all ten. At this stage, you can choose between using a facial oil, a spot treatment cream or a mask. The latter should be used only 1/2x a week.

8- Eye Cream

Next up is the eye cream. The area around our eyes is quite sensitive and sometimes the cream we use on our face isn't the best for that area. That is why eye cream should be used. Apply a pea-size amount with your ring finger while tapping gently.

9- Moisturizer

Time to lock in all the goodness of the products we've used so far. Apply a generous amount of your favorite moisturizer to your face and neck.

10-SPF/ Sleeping Pack

The product to use on the last step depends on what time of the day you are doing this routine. If you're doing it during the day, the last step should be applying SPF to protect your skin from sun damage. If you're doing this at night, a sleeping pack will replace the SPF. Be careful not to overdo it though. Sleeping packs should only be applied 2/3x a week.

Mastering The Art Of Stylish Yet Comfortable Outfits

Fashion is pain. We've all heard that at some point in our lives. But is it true? Some might say it is but I don't really think so. I've talked about this before on my '20 Casual Outfits Anyone Can Recreate' post a while back and I'll say it again: I think people have kind of stopped associating looking fashionable with 12-inch heels and skin-tight dresses which show how much we've evolved in the last few years. However, there is still a bit of a stigma regarding the whole 'comfortable outfit' concept as people still associate it with people wearing old baggy sweatpants and an old run-down hoodie. Well, today I'm here to show how to master the art of stylish yet comfortable outfits.

I think the key to achieving that is actually pretty simple: the first thing is to not wear fabrics that constrain your movements, give you an itchy sensation or that you simply just don't like. The second thing you should do to perfect the comfy + stylish outfit formula is to pay attention to the cut of your clothing items. For example, if you don't like to show your chest area, then don't go for clothes with an open neckline.

And the most important rule is:  never wear something you don't want just because someone says you should. Never do that, ever! You dress how you wanna dress and if people don't like it, then that's their problem.

With that all being said, here are a few examples of outfits I've put together on my URSTYLE profile  to hopefully give you some inspiration.

How to Learn a New Skill Easily and Quickly

How to Learn a New Skill Easily and Quickly

I remember once hearing someone saying: ''When you stop learning you are as good as dead.'' I have no idea who said it but that sentence has stuck with me for years now. I'm a firm believer that we should never stop learning. It doesn't matter what you learn, as long as you are learning something. Whether you're learning a new language or you're simply just learning a new way to cook potatoes, knowledge is power and the more you have it the better.

Choosing what to learn about

The first step on your learning journey is also the most important one of all: choosing what you want to learn about. If you're like me and you want to learn about a ton of things at once I suggest you grab a piece of paper and write down all the things you'd like to learn. After that, think about which skill will be the most useful in the nearby future. Imagine you want you want to learn how to edit photos on photoshop and you also want to learn a few key sentences in French. In a few weeks, you'll be going to Paris on vacation. What would be the most useful skill for that trip? Learning a few French words, right? So that skill should be you're number one skill to learn. After that trip, you can concentrate on your editing skills.

Break down the steps to get to your goal within that skill

I've talked about breaking your goals into small manageable steps on my 'How To Plan a Big Project' blogpost but this also applies to learning something new. Breaking things into small steps will make everything look less overwhelming. You will then feel a lot motivated to complete those steps and much happier when you manage to tick off one of them.

Gather all the materials you might need

Having everything you need to learn the skill you want all in one place and have it somewhere you can easily see it and access it. That way you won't have the excuse of ''Oh I'm not gonna work on that skill today because I don't have the materials gathered.''

Practice makes perfect

I started learning Korean almost a year ago but didn't have a set schedule for when I was going to study. I about 6 months I only knew the basics like the Korean alphabet and a few basic sentences. It wasn't until I started practicing diligently every day that I improved. I don't spend a lot of time each day studying Korean, just about 15 to 30 minutes each morning but I feel like my skills have improved immensely to the point where I watch Korean tv shows without subtitles and have somewhat of a clear idea of what is being said. I know it sounds kinda boring having to practice every day but trust me if you make it fun, it won't cost a thing.

Make it fun

Speaking of making it fun, there are endless ways you can make learning fun. Learning something should be fun for you to the point where it feels like getting ice-cream or watching your favorite show.

Can you believe may is literally May tomorrow? I feel like I've been saying this all the time but it still feels like New Year's was just yesterday.  For this May Playlist I've decided to skip out the chilled songs and go for a more party-like vibe. (Okay,I lied there's like one chilled song but I really love it) Why might you ask? Well, because I turn 22 this Friday and we don't want sad songs playing on my birthday. The Trendiest Spring/Summer Accessories

Thursday, April 04, 2019

spring-summer-accessories-2019

Accessories are the perfect way to give your outfits a little something special. You can be wearing the plainest outfit but when you add the right accessory you'll instantly look like you've spent hours perfecting your outfit. Here are my top 5 accessories for this spring/summer.

Hair Clips

Ever since I was little my mom would out all kinds of hair accessories on me so I grew up loving all sorts of hair accessories. Hair clips were one of them. I'm super happy that this is a thing right now.

The most popular hair clips at the moment are ones with either pearls, glitter or words. Here are my favorites:

Bucket Hats

Okay, I know a lot of people aren't really into bucket hats but hear me out for a second. Bucket hats are the perfect combination of casual and kinda dressy. If you're not into dad caps/baseball caps/ whatever you want to call them, I think this is the perfect option.

Seashell Jewelry

I started seeing this trend going around in the late months of summer last year but since autumn was pretty much around the corner, the trend kind of died down but it's now back in full force. These are the perfect accessory for any summer outfit. Just throw on a white flowy dress, some sandals and top it off with some seashell jewelry and you're good to go!

Anything Pearl

Remember when pearls were a granny thing? Well, not anymore! Pearls are super in right now and give your looks just the right amount of elegance it needs. You can wear pearl bags, hair clips as mentioned above and any kind of jewelry

Vintage Print Scarves
Scarves are an extremely versatile accessory: you can use them on your hair, around your neck, on your bag and if they are big enough you can even wear them as a top or a belt.
