My Winter Makeup Routine

my winter makeup routine

Gosh, how long has it been since I've written a beauty blogpost? Too long if you ask me. Although I do love makeup and love reading beauty related blogposts, I've always kind of stayed away from writing ones myself mainly because I'm not someone who runs to Sephora everytime a brand launches a new product and I felt like people wouldn't really want to read about products that have been in the market for more than 3 months. However, recently I've been seeing a bunch of beauty bloggers writing about not only about the latest launches but also about products that have been around for months and even years. That motivated me to start working on the beauty side of The European Closet and I'm hoping to incorporate more beauty related content on the blog from now on.

To start off,  I decided to go simple and show you what my winter makeup routine looks like. I'm not going to talk about my winter skincare routine here but if you're interested in reading a bit about it, I have written a blogpost about the beauty products I reach for daily. It was written a long time ago but there are a few bits I still use to this day. I'll make sure to write an updates skincare routine soon.

To start off my makeup, I use the Essence Fresh & Fit Awake Makeup Foundation in the shade 10. This is a fairly recent purchase and I am still trying it out to be honest. So far, I really like the coverage of it. However, the thing that bothers me the most is that it kind of grabs onto my dry patches around my nose. Longevity wise it's pretty good.

Following that, I use the Essence Camouflage + Matt Concealer in the shade 10, again a recent purchase. This is probably my favourite concealer of all I've ever tried. The coverage is so good, it doesn't crease and the best of all, you get a lot of product at a low price! Who doesn't love that? I am definitely buying this again, but I'll probably buy it a shade darker just because I'm not really into super bright under eyes.

To set everything in place, I use an old favourite of mine: the Catrice Nude Illusion Loose Power. I'm not really an expert when it comes to setting powders since I've never tried a bunch of them but from all the ones I've tried, I feel like this one is the best for my type of skin.

I've been kind of avoiding heavy contouring lately, preferring to stick to light shading and blush but I've actually run out of blush so I won't be including it here today. For contouring though, I use the Catrice Prime and Fine Professional Contouring Palette in the shade 10. This is the only contouring powder I've tried that doesn't have neither a grey overcast nor an orange one. This shade is just perfect for my pale af skin. As I said above, I use this product very lightly, mainly to accentuate my cheekbones and lightly contour my nose.

Highlighter is probably my favourite makeup product, meaning I'm willing to spend more on it than on other products. However, the highlighter I'm showing you today is probably the cheapest thing on the post (and the best as well). This highlighter is actually from Primark. Yes, Primark! My mom bought it for me actually. Previously I had been using the Becca highlighter in the shade Opal, which I loved, but felt like it was a tad bit too dark for my skin tone during winter so this as a perfect alternative. The pan is huge, so it'll last you forever and the glow is insane!

I got the Anastacia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette for Christmas and have been using it non-stop on my eyes. I really like pink and orange tones in eye makeup so this palette was a dream for me. I normally use the shades Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange and Primavera but when I feel a bit more daring I'll use the darker shades as well. Other than that, I don't really do much else. Eyeliner is kind of out of the question because 1) I suck at it and 2) I think it makes my eyes smaller.

As for lips, I do one of two things: I either use the NYX Matt Lip Pencil in Los Angeles all over my lips and top it off with some lip balm or I use the NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Exotic and dab and little on the centre of my lips for an ombre effect.

To finish off, I use the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara which is the only mascara I've tried that does an actual good job at separating my eyelashes. I have naturally long eyelashes, even though it doesn't really look like it when I'm not wearing makeup because my lashes are half brown and half blonde, so I'm not going out looking for a mascara to make my eyelashes look bigger, therefore, this mascara is great for me.

The last step on my makeup routine is setting spray. I use this Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Oil Control Fixing Spray which is supposed to be great for oily skin, aka great for me. I honestly don't see that much of a difference when it comes to the whole 'oil control' thing but I do think this setting spray makes my makeup lasts longer than usual.

Do you use any of these products?
